the "Myrick" mod ?

In another post, a response referred to the "Myrick" mod. The mod uses another 500K pot with the existing 500K pot in a passive volume pedal. What is the primary purpose of this mod, it's wiring configuration and what are the pros and cons. Thanks -DJ-
