ProFex II-Does yours break up if pushed?
Just curious. The other night I was really pushing some low notes on C6 and I was breaking up. I don't think it was my amp. It's fairly new. I'll try just my amp next time I set up. But I think I have had this happen before. I play E9 mostly, and I normally don't push the volume like I did the other night goofing around at sound check.

Yes, It's possible to over-drive the front-end of a Profex II. Does the LED on the left side change from green to red as you play ?? If so, then it may clip a bit. this is a nornal. Just back off the input level and then turn up the output level on the back of the unit to regain the volumne.
Sometimes the new and hot P/U's (710,910) do have a tendency to punch the input a bit.
The unit should NOT clip at a normal level, say uh, input control at about 12:00 o clock

If there is an EQ in your patch, you might be overdriving that a bit in the low end, especially if you are boosting that.
Since I stack 3 EQ's and a coil tap in my patch, I get some cool distortion at the full signal; where most of my picking is at the beginning of my volume pedal, sometimes I can pick up a little spitting sound by using the volume pedal, even at the end of a sustain. I know, Peavey goes through all that trouble to make clean sounding stuff and I go an' mess it up!

Hi Bobby. You're probably right about the overdriven eq. I am terrible about using my ProFex properly. I found a couple of patches I like and use them, but I never understood or used the unit at it's full capability. I'll check my in/out settings and try to pay attention on stage to the OD lights.
So now that you shot your mouth off about a cool patch, how 'bout posting that sucker and let me try it
I'll even rename it "Bobby's OD" or something like that.

Well, unless you have Williams open-coil PU's, I wouldn't advise my patch, hehe.
But here is my scheme for making a patch. I use the 4-band EQ where you can set the width of the bands. This I use subtractively only, to shape the tone of the pickup (in my case, take out a bunch of honky mids) and make sure the response is good across the spectrum. From there it goes into the Coil Tap and Classic EQ parallel (4b>CT+CQ). Most of the signal color is here, with the shift part of the CQ acting like the good old Peavey eq on Sessions and Nashvilles, and the coil tap adding the sizzle. That is probably a good starting point, although I also send the signal into the 3B for more color (and then delay and reverb). BTW, this is my main patch...I have a "Pedal Metal" patch that is way overdriven, hehe.
Profex II goes into Nasville 1000 as power amp in, or right into board when recording.
Of course, when I finally get a transtubefex I'll have to mess with that!
