JBL 15s and Peavy JBLs
I have 2 JBL 15" speakers. One is out of my 1977 Session 400 and is marked "Peavey by James B. Lansing. The other is a 15" JBL Model M-31. Both have been used in the Session 400 for several years. They are both in need of re-coning. Is there anyone out there who does professional reconing on these old JBLs? Secondly, I just installed a new 1501 Black Widow in the 400. The speaker itself brightened the amp back up. Then a LeMays retro kit was installed. The amp in now preforming as good as when it was new if not better. I am very happy with the preformance of the LeMay kit.

Most old speakers are difficult to obtain original repair kits for. There are generic recone kits made for most any speaker, though, so you can have them reconed if you want. They will sound similar, but not exactly as they did when they were new. Cones, as well as the spiders, dust caps, and doping materials are all slightly different (improved?) nowadays.
If you don't mind the shipping costs, "Orange County Speaker" has a website, and they have the equipment necessary to do an excellent job. Speakers are hard to pack, and expensive to ship, so I would look for a local outfit first.
