Pod vs. Pod Pro
The rack mounted Line 6 Pod costs a lot more than the goofy shaped box version, but it seems to have the same controls and programs. It has more i/o jacks, I think. Is there any difference in the sound?
Also, can you just run a Pod into a power amp, or do you still need a preamp?

Hey Bobby,
The Pod Pro is way different than the 'kidney'. Lots more parameter control from the front panel, like delay level/time, reverbs, and about 32 different cabinets and amps all accessible right there instead of having to go to the computer. There are many more outs and ins on the back for just about any live or recording situation you might run into. A way more versatile unit than the original Pod. And it's AC powered and rack-mounted.

Since Vs. 2.0 all the cabinets and all amp models are accessible from the front panel of the POD.

I just received my 2.0 upgrade chip. I'm anxious to get it loaded. And yes, all of the amp models, including the new ones in v2.0 are accessible from the front panel. Mine is just the kidney shaped unit so I'm not familiar with the Pro. A friend of mine uses the Line6 head with the Pod and 300W power amp for his guitar (I only use mine on guitar also). That thing cooks.
Bob do you or anyone else have the foot controller? That thing really makes the Pod powerful and flexible, but sometimes it tends to have a "mind of it's own". It will sometimes jump into an effect right in the middle of a solo. Anyone else ever have this problem?

Chris,
I've tried using my POD with a Roland foot-controller (called FC-something), and it worked flawlessly.
That said, I've experienced the exact same "jumping" between amp models, without the controller connected, that is.
I've noticed, that it apparently only happens if the front panel switch is set at the "Modern Hi Gain" amp (a Soldano model), and I'm playing a more clean sound. It'll then jump to the high gain setting with out me touching anything.
I'm waiting for my upgrade at the moment, and I'm waiting to see if that cure's it. Othervise I'll have to have it serviced, I guess.
Ole

I never had this problem but I never used it with a foot controller.
Ole, it's interesting that it worked with controller from another company. Was your a big one with pedals and stuff or a smaller one like the little one from Line 6?

The upgrade chip expands the headroom, lowering the noise that some had noticed playing clean. You don't have to crank the drive channel as much to bring out the character of the setting you're using. Check out some of Gary Morse's (Dwight Yoakam) posts in different forums. He's a long time POD user
