How thick is the fingerboard? Does it look like a metal foil sticker,or as thick as a shobuds' plastic one? This is what I would try. Number one, the old glue sounds like its contact cement, the stuff they use to laminate counter tops. carefully clean it off the finderboard and neck using what ever will not hurt the finish (Mineral spirits, WD40; what the heck, that crap has got to be good for something. Goo be gone or goof off are my favorites)And reappy the cement as directed. Another trick is to go to stewart-mcDonalds web site and get a couple of sheets of pickguard adheseive. basically, it's really good double stick tape. I use it to attach pickguards on my acoustics that I make. Good Luck

Hey thanks guys. Ed they are original White Sho~bud fret boards from the '60s>so they are metal>probably 1/64" or 1/32" thick.
Yeah I'll clean the glue off and then reapply contact cement and that should do it. Oh all I'm doing, is taking off my black shobud fret boards and replacing with these.
Thanks everyone.

Ricky, I have a roll of very thin double face tape that I use for fretboard replacement. Want me to send you some?

Hey Jerry thanks my friend; but I have it all lined out pal. Here's what I did. I left my Black Fret boards on there(because I'm not sure if this is gunna be permenant yet)>I put scotch tape over the black fret boards to protect them. I put that thin two sided tape on the bottom of the white fret boards>just in strategic spots to hold them down flat>and layed those babies right on top of the black fret boards. Looks pretty good I have to say and if I don't like them I can take them off and the scotch tape will come off and my black fret boards won't have and wear from the tape>Right??? well I hope not>or I'll just have to get new ones>no prob.
So I appreciate everyones help and the two sided tape is diffinatly the way to go even If I'm gunna pull up the Black ones and make the white ones permenant one day.
That contact cement; is just too messy.
