Tuners...

Post by Roger Rettig »

I'm thinking of getting a rack-mounted tuner; does anyone have any strong recommendations in this regard?
Thanks...

Korg DTR-1, I rate it a best buy..... I bought one about a year ago and think it's great.

I second the Korg line, including the cheaper DTR-2. Top choice would probably be a Peterson auto chromatic rack mounted strobe, but those are expensive and bulky. The Korgs are sensitive on the low strings and show up reasonably well in the daylight. Their only problem has been hum when in the direct input signal line. This can be corrected by ground lift on the Korg power line.

Don't get the Sabine rack mounted models. They are hard to use for Just tuning and not sensitive enough in the low register.

I just pulled out my Musician's Frand catalogue, and it indicates that the DTR-1 has "strobe tuning modes". Is zat right? Anyone know anything about that?

Hi Steve,

Yes the Korg DTR1 has a strobe setting. It reminds me of the old strobe tuners which they had in the high school band way to many years ago. It works just like the old ones except the LED's move rather than those little wheels, pretty cool. It's a great tuner IMHO.

Korg DTR-1. Accurate and smart. It'll test your cords for you. Also shows up pretty darn well in daytime, better than earlier models.
