Good morning Kenny! I was going to ask Mike a speaker question about the 1501's also, so I'll do it here and Mike can help us both at the same time.
Mike, are the 1501-SB still available? And are the baskets interchangable with the 1501-DT's? Can I order these thru my local dealer?
Enough questions already! Thanks Mike for all you do for us steelers. I know I say it all the time, but we don't say it enough....Brian

As I understand it, the Nashville 400 (and other Peaveys, too) came with different speakers over the years Peavey made them. First was the 1502 then the 1501 - DT and after that, around 1995, the 1501 - SB (shallow basket), Has anyone had experience with 2 or 3 of these who could comment on the tonal differences between these units (I assume they can all handle 210 watts the amp puts out)? Also, how can you visually tell the difference between them?

Thank,

Bob

Bob,
These 1501-DT's are the deep baskets,
I have 1502''s that are shallow basket,Also have the plain 1501's
I've just never ran into the 1501-DT's,
wondering maybe they were PA speakers?
Thanks, Kenny

The 1501-DT were used in the Nashville 400 but may have been used elsewhere as well, like a P.A. In 1995 the Nashville 400 switched to a 1501-SB.

And here I thought someone had sold me a Nash. with a wrong speaker! My first Nash. had a 1502. I just thought it was a 1501, only an older model.
Mike must be busy, otherwise we would of heard from him already.....Brian

Yep, it's been real busy this morning as you can see on BAR CHATTER.

I've corresponded with Bob via e-mail concerning this. Actually, there were two versions of a BW 1501-4 ohm. The 1501-4 and 1501-4DT version was used in the Session 400, Rhythm Master, Renown, Session 500 and Nashville 400. Then came the 1502-4 and 1502DT BW speakers. This particular speaker was used in some of our bass amps, but also was used in the Nashville 400 for a few years. Then, in the mid 90's, we introduced Kevlar impregnated cones for the BW series of speakers.

Steel guitarist/Peavey endorser Glenn Reiuf with John Anderson's band contacted us about the tonality(or lack of)with the KEVLAR material in the Nashville 400 and Session 400 Limited amps. But it worked really well in our bass gear. This is when we went to work and introduced the 1501-4 ohm shallow basket speaker. This brings us to the present. The actual difference between the two is that one has a shallow basket and cone and the DT obviously has a deeper cone and basket. But, with the Kevlar interwoven into the cone material, the rigidity of the cone increased and withstood signal distortion better.

This works well for all applications except the steel guitar. So, we kept the one piece voice coil assembly with the "chrome dome" and paper cone for steel guitar applications.
However, much preliminary research and developement was done prior to the introduction of the 1501-4SB, which is what we now use exclusively for our steel applications. We went to great pain to develope this speaker, which as a matter of fact has been well accepted by steelers and fiddlers alike.

Thanks Bob & Mike,
That answered all the questions I had .
I was just wondering about the application for steel, I'm building a rack for a spare system.
