Mosvalve MV 942

Anybody know this power amp? The stated specs of 250 watts per channel make it sound like the 1500 (BTW--are the 500 and the 1500 one and the same?)
This is a new area of inquiry for me.
What can you tell me?

Jon - I think that the 942 is the 80w/channel into 4 ohm model. The 942 is the older model of the 1160, and yep, the 1500 is the newer model of the 500, which is the 250w model. I forget the particulars about the 942, but the following should help:

My MosValve 500 power amp also has MV942 marked on the front panel, so the MV942 must be another designation for that amp.

The MosValve 500 is what a lot of steelers use, including Paul Franklin the last time I saw a list of his equipment.

The 1500 is the current production model that replaced the 500 and is basically the same.

The MV962 is the older Mossvalve amp which is 80W per side. Been using mine for over 6 years without a glitch, hope I didn't speak to soon. ))

??? I know my "MosValve 500" is a MosValve 500, after conferring with the factory techs, however on the right side of the front panel right below the right side air vents is written "Tube Works" and right below it is "MV942".

????

I just confirmed the MV942 is a MosValve 500 (1500) with 250 w per channel. The MV962 is 80 watts per channel and equivalent to a Model 1160.

This 942/500/1500 is the beggar that weighs 30+ Lbs.?

Hey Jim--does that 962 bridge to mono? At what wattage? How have you faired with power? Ever come up short?

Yes, the only negative is the weight. But it's a helluva amp, soundwise, and design. It was built to be a workhorse, not built to a price.

Hi Jon,
It bridges allright, supposed to be 160 watts if I remember right. Have never used it that way though. Have not really run out of power, but then again I don't play at any rock levels. On time we played outdoors at a park, was a little worried about getting enough sound, so I stacked 2 12" cabs on top of the 15"s, handled them all right and was pretty loud.

Jim--I thank you. I'm really getting interested in the Mosvalve route and the 962/1160 sure does shed some of the 1500's weight.
Some stuff to think about, for sure.
