Satellite TV
This is something I've never heard disussed in here, despite many people's disappointment at the state of radio today.
This week I finally broke down and bought a satellite dish. I haven't spent enough time watching it to know what I've got yet, but I sure have listened alot.
This thing has about 20 music stations on it (just audio, no video) running the gamut from old to new country and everything in between, 5 jazz stations, 8 rock stations, easy listening, classical, you name it. No commercials, no D.J's talking over top of instrumental breaks (!).... it's great !
On the "classic country" channel, within 20 minutes I'd heard Hawkshaw Hawkins singing Lonesome 77-203, Milsap singing "Legend in my time" and Conway singing "15 years ago. Wow! I was getting tired of hearing myself saying "I haven't heard that in a while".
What a relief from the radio station format!

Y'know, we have a dish we bought at an auction last year but haven't had it installed. I've been reluctant, cuz I don't want my kid (or me, for that matter) to turn into a couch potato, and I'm afraid that 180 channels (or however many it is) will just be too alluring.
Can you, as the subscriber, limit which channels are available on your set? I know you can buy this or that package, but can you buy a certain package and then, say, screen out all but 10-12 channels? If so, then I might go ahead and have it installed.

Jim,
The only difference between 10 channels and 180 channels is that it takes you 18x as long to discover there's nothing on worth watching.
BTW, great CD.
