The analogy is incorrect. Dr. Kervorkian, whether or not you agree with his methodology, is attempting to end suffering for patients with incurable, intractable pain who have no hope of recovery.

Pete Fisher is administering a full colonoscopy to country music without the benefit of an anesthetic. Country music will survive, but the present time is painful.

Dr. Kavorkian is an educated man,This fisher guy is a few cards short of a full deck. How can anyone with any education and common sense lack the fundamental values it takes to run a tradition like the Grand Ole Opry? You would have been closer comparing him to Hitler John, remember him?

Country music will surive but as what? The name will be used but it will only be a name.Traditional Country Music will not be popular on radio or the Opry in 10 years. Most of the older Opry stars are senior citizens. So you end up with a hand full of younger Traditional stars against the rest.Traditional Country will never die but will be among those who love it.

well....

Being that Mr. Fisher isn't into "Country Music" I can only assumne that this mission of his is propelled by the amount of $money$ that is paid to him for the distruction of this area of music. I too,if not educated somewhat in this area, would attempt to destroy (as requested by his bosses) anything that isn't what he thinks is needed. (AKA,seasoned singers, true country, and 4/4 timeing) The $$$ is all important if one dosen't understand/or accept the "Country Music".

If I were in his shoes, I guess I would be laughing all the way to the bank too. He doesn't care who or what he hurts, distroys or even kills, as long as he is paid hansomly for this action. I can distroy birdnest, moleholes, even rabbit houseings because I really don't have a feeling for the results of these actions, Just as long as I am paid for what I accomplish in this area.

Face it, As much as we grip, fuss, and moan here, MR. Fisher doesen't care as long as he is getting the $-Money-$ to do what is requested of him. Image

You really can't blame Pete Fisher. He's just a "pawn". When Steve Buchanan says,"Do it",you'd better do "it",or you'll be lookin' for work somewhere else.

I'm not gonna slam Pete Fisher 'cause he's had the sense to invite my boss Don Walser back for another appearance this Saturday. Don will be on the TV portion and the radio show, plus he'll be interviewed by Bill Anderson on the Opry Backstage show. Don't miss this if you really like country music. Don is the real deal.
Unfortunately, the record company wouldn't spring for the $ to send our band back up there to back him up, but I'll bet the staff band does an okay job.

Fisher has had the Deraillers, a great hardcore honky tonk band, on there lately. That sort of makes up for Yankee Gray (or is it Rebel Blue) and some of the other sorry HNC acts that have appeared.

Pete, if you read this, invite Dale Watson, Wayne Hancock, and Cornell Hurd to perform on the Opry. That will placate us country fans for a while.

Frankly, I don't think the Opry has been very representative of good country music for years. I enjoy and respect the old timers, but real country music has not been made in Nashville in a mighty long time. The real stuff is done here in Texas, and we continue to pump it out.
I'm surprised that in these ongoing discussions about the demise of country music, Forum members seem unaware of the great music being made and recorded down here. Don't rely on Alan Jackson.

Received my Middle Tennessee State University magazine today and to my surprise there was an article in there about Mr. Fisher. It seems that he was graduated from MTSU in 1987. He came to Murfreesboro after seeing an advertisement in a magazine. The university was advertising a degree in music business. It seems that Mr. Fisher was a trumpet player with a touring group called "Up with people". He took an internship with Warner Bros. records in Music City. The article doesn't say where he's from.
The same magazine reports that Mark Medley who also graduated from MTSU (M.A.97) is the curator of collections at the Country Music Hall of Fame.
