I'm curious because I own a 1956 Gibson EH-620, the 8 string, 6 pedal version. And today out of curiosity because I had seen an old Gibson ad I did some searching for actual photos of them. The 810 is the single neck version and the 820 is the double neck version. I love my 620 and even though I had done extensive research on it initially thinking it was a humbucker my research lead me to believe the pick up was a P90. After finding more info today, and seeing these 810 & 820 models, 1956 is the year Gibson introduced the humbucker to the 620 and other pedal steels. Any way if someone out in the world happens to have one I'd love to see it and know how the pedals compare to the style of my 620. My 620 is not like my modern pedal steels in any way. It's more that it gives the ability to make tuning changes and also on the fly with a small flat head screwdriver at the mechanism on top. I can't get mine to lower without having an issue with strings not coming back up to pitch so I've kept it to raises. My understanding it was lower all 8 strings and raise strings back up to get a lower. I mainly play it as a console steel with tuning change ability but the tone is superb. The original ads mention a "feather lite" touch and the pedals are position in between the legs and not cascading off the left leg like the other EH models.
I know Gibson didn't make a lot of them back through the 50's and 60's but they seem like very cool pedal steels. Thanks in advance if anyone has one to share some info on.
Does anyone own a Gibson EH-810 or Gibson EH-820 pedal steel?
