Katana 100 speaker upgrade

Post by Jeff Buesing »

Hello, after owning and using virtually every steel guitar amp over the years, I have committed to the Boss Katana 100. I really like the sound of it, as well as the weight (I just turned 68). My question has to do with a possible speaker upgrade. Will I see a noticeable improvement if I were to install perhaps a Blue Marvel or other speaker? What say those that have done this?

Thanks friends

I don't own a Boss Katana but have heard them and thought the factory speaker was not that great. I have a Fender Tone Master Tone Master Deluxe Reverb that came with a Celestion Neo speaker. I swapped it out for a 1203-8 Black Widow and find the amp tone to be greatly improved. I play a 1976 Emmons pushpull with stock single coil pickups and at home only. The Black Widow 12 inch weighs about 12 pounds so the weight of the amp will increase as I think the weight of the Katana speaker is around 7.5 pounds.....not sure on that. For the record I'm soon to be 68 as well.
