Post by john widgren »

John Hammond passed last week.
What can one say? An Artist? A legend? ..at least.
He was a frequent guest with Western Caravan, Always a pleasure, with million stories.
I think ill fire up Little Big Man tonight, just to listen to his amazing soundtrack for the film

Sorry to read about John. Only time I ever saw him was at the old Mpls Labor Temple. Was familiar with him because at the time (early seventies) I was an avid student of the blues harp, and had purchased, enjoyed, and learned a lot from one of his early LPs. I heard the show advertised on the radio as a double-billing with "The Almond Brothers Blues Band," who I did not know from Adam. John opened with a short acoustic set, handed off his National to a roadie, pulled out a gaggle of Hohners, and called out the band to back him up. Whoa Nellie! Legendary indeed.

RIP, John
