Re: Red Rhodes With Michael Nesmith's First National Band-Joanne
I absolutely love Red's playing with Michael. Here's Red with Michael on Austin City Limits in 1992 - https://youtu.be/OQUvAfJ0-1A?list=RDOQUvAfJ0-1A - it opens with Joanne.
And catch Red on the "Electric Hawaiian Pedal Steel Guitar" on Twilight on the Trail - https://youtu.be/OQUvAfJ0-1A?list=RDOQUvAfJ0-1A&t=974
Or if you wanna just cut to the solo - https://youtu.be/OQUvAfJ0-1A?list=RDOQUvAfJ0-1A&t=1094
The whole band is pretty wicked great.

Re: Red Rhodes With Michael Nesmith's First National Band-Joanne
Thanks Chris and Dave, great video from ACL, I noticed on the credits on Joanne from the album they called Red Rhodes, Red Rose accidentally, probably auto-correct.
Is that John Jorgenson on acoustic guitar on the ACL show?
I luckily got to see Nez l here a few years before he passed at a local theatre and was one of the best shows I've seen. Chris Scruggs was on steel and Paul Leim playing drums.
I got His last compilation CD a year before he died and asked him to sign it which he did, One of my prized possessions.
Will be playing his music over the weekend. Thanks!

Yeah, that's John. He is unbelievably multi-talented. I guess this is just pre-Hellecasters.Is that John Jorgenson on acoustic guitar on the ACL show?

Michael Nesmith produced a beautful album, Valley Hi, featuring Ian Matthews, Red Rhoads, Byron Berline, and others. Seven Bridges Road https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg4ypNN ... H6&index=6 is my favorite version of the song by Steve Young.

Man, that took me back.
I followed Michael and Red from that first album. The Countryside and Pacific Arts labels were Michael's, and much great music was to be had.
I wore this one out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5b43UqP ... rt_radio=1

Thanks for posting that, Chris. Call me an old fuddy-duddy if you wish, but I have always thought that Red's intro on that song was one of the most beautiful, and yet one of the most simplistic pedal steel intros ever played. Just like Buddy's "Night Life" intro, it fits the song perfectly and literally defines its mood.

I have always thought that Mr. Rhodes' pedal steel work on the final incarnation of the Lovin' Spoonful's heavily produced version of the great John Stewart song Never Goin' Back was unique and absolutely stellar.
