Nashville 400 Buzz Issue

Post by Chase Phillips »

Hello all. I recently purchased a chrome corner NV400 and after bringing it home today from a rehearsal, I plugged it in and turned it on when it started making a constant, uncontrollable buzzing/humming noise. The buzz was not affected by either of the gain pots, or EQ pots. I also unplugged the cable from the input jack still with no avail. I’m taking it to my local tech in the morning but any suggestions as to what might be the cause would be greatly appreciated!

Along with Dennis. Probably could use new filter capacitors. That would be my first step.

Have you tried turning the reverb off? Also check the molex connector.

As has already been suggested,
1) ALL amps need to have their electrolytic capacitors replaced every 20 years or so, which requires appropriate knowledge and skills.
2) the Molex connectors in Peavey amps are notorious for corroding and working loose over time, these you can usually clean and reseat yourself.

The odds that it's anything else are miniscule unless someone has been mucking about in there. If you're taking it in to a decent shop they will address both of these issues first thing.
