Jaydee Maness pickups on his Emmons

Post by John LeMaster »

Hello all.
Jaydee Maness always has such a crisp clear tone. Assuming that "everything affects everything", my big question is:

To what ohms is the pickup wound on the E9th neck on his Emmons push-pull?

His tone is one of the best, in my opinion. (His hands might be 95%, the guitar might be 4% and the pickups only 1% or less, but I'm still curious about the ohms.) :D

My push-pull has both pickups wound to 17.5K ohms. I have heard that the new Emmons Resound 65 might have a "lighter" winding on its pickups?

Jay Dee is indeed a Monster Player and has always had tone to die for! He sometimes checks the Forum and may provide us with the answer. I’m guessing Jim Palenscar would know or have a really informed guesstimate. Jim is the Best!

Thanks Dennis. I didn't realize he uses Telonics X-10 pickups.
He sure gets a fantastic tone! And, that guitar has the classic push-pull sound, to my ears.

Timely thread - I just put an X10 in my '73 S10 and (unexpectedly) I love it after dialing it in. The individually adjustable pole pieces and noiseless operation have really spoiled me; I can now floor the VP for "endless" sustain in any venue and the string balance no longer depends on the string gauges. I did dial back the bass and low mids a tad on my Quilter Steelaire to better suit was I'm used to hearing though, and it is hotter than the 17.5k-ish single coils I had used.
