Headphone Question

Post by Tom Hackett »

I have a 22 year old Peavey Nashville 112 and I want to have headphones so I can hear me and then play to songs on my phone. All quietly to others. I have no clue how to do that. My amp has a headphone jack and some things on it I don't even know what they are. Can any of you suggest how to practice quietly and to music from my phone? Thanks so much.

Tom I use a USB mixer to hook my amp up to my computer so I can play along with anything online, but since you are using a phone that may not work.

I would suggest a small mixer with Bluetooth. You can go from the headphone out on your amp to an input on the mixer with a 1:4 inch cord then hook you phone up by Bluetooth and plug your headphones into the headphone jack on the mixer.

I would think something like this would do what you are wanting to do. Many more choices than this, it is just the first thing that came up.

I have found that the best solution for this is to forget the amp.
For quiet practice along with songs from my phone I use the SONICAKE POCKET MASTER.
It's really cheap but punches well above it's weight.
You can pair your phone to it with bluetooth, plug in your instrument cable(Or I use a lekato wireless) then plug in wired headphones and go.
And it's portable, with a built in rechargable battery, type C connection.

Not sure if this is still an issue but it used to be that bluetooth was too slow a protocol to use with live instruments. i.e. there is too much latency.

Roland's CUBE Street has a 1/8" stereo input and a headphone output, always my go-to when I want to play with recordings inbquiet mode.

That’s exactly what I do with one of my Cube amps.

It works very well.

Yes that is definitely right, you can only use it for, in this case getting recorded music INTO your device to mix with what you are playing.
No use for getting from there to your ears, which is why you use wired headphones.

I bought a Harbinger LVL LX8. I came home and tried to hook it up so that it went through my Peavy 112 and into the new mixer. Nothing I did worked. Headphones work great when plugged into the amp, but I can't figure out how to get my phone to bluetooth to the mixer and hear it through the headphones along with my steel playing and all while it's quiet in the room and nothing coming from the amp. I hve no clue what I'm doing wrong. Can anybody help with this? I can return the mixer if it's the wrong thing to do what I want to do. Help if you can. Thanks so much.

Darn. I thought I had it figured out. Apparently I don't. The bluetooth is fine and comes in great to the headphones. I can control the steel just fine. However, the Peavey 112 is not quiet when I'm hooked up correctly. It has a funky scratchy sound of what I'm playing and isn't totally mute when the headphones are plugged in. Anybody have any ideas on this? I'd sure appreciate it.

Sounds like your input gain into the mixer channel may be too high.
