Amplifier Theory Question

Post by Paul Hutzler »

I have a Webb 614E with a 15" speaker. I want to run a separate preamp into the power amp section of the amp via the EFX RTN input. (Origin Effects Revivaldrive preamp pedal) For this purpose i wont be using the Webb preamp. My question:
1. Are power amps more or less flat in their frequency response?
Thanks.

It depends, but in general, power amp response is flatter than preamp response. And a solid state power amp is usually flatter than a tube power amp. There are some types of controls that can shape power amp tone, but I don't think your Webb has any of those (presence, resonance and/or master volume) which is good for your purpose.
