WOW ! I've never Buddy play that stuff of course he didn't need too but that's killer stuff. Thanks for posting this and all of the recordings you have of Buddy.

Going back a computer, looking for someone else's music, I ran across that. I think he heard Paul Franklin's licks and that inspired him to explore that territory.
I think he had his hopes up to play with Dire Straits around that time.

I am hearing a lot of pick blocking, new riffs, not the traditional Emmons territory and some fierce attack on the strings. Buddy was still improving and adding to his bag of tricks.

Yes, Greg. Majoriy exploring pick blocking with generous use of the top two strings.

Thanks for posting this, Chris.

One of the things that jumped out at me was his attack, something that the missing amplification really reveals: each note is consistent and clean regardless of whether it's finger or thumb. Reminds me of an Ernie Renn story where Buddy said he wanted each note to be like shaking a fist to the listener.

I think at this time Buddy really began feeling the wear and tear with his fingers. I remember he was taking glucosamine and chondroitin and may relate to him saying he wouldn't play like that again.
