Zum Steel (Encore) Strings
This question goes out to all of you Zum Steel (Encore) players. In your opinion(s), what name brand strings and gages do you use and why?
Zum Steel (Encore) 3X5, Telonics 500C amp, Goodrich L-120 volume pedal, Steelers Choice Seat, Sarno Black Box.

Re: Zum Steel (Encore) Strings
I use GHS’s . Here’s some string info Doug Earnest sent me in an email several years ago:
“GHS Stainless are standard equipment. I don't know of a set in exactly those sizes. Most have a .036 for the 10th, where a .038 is preferred. I have come to prefer a .012 for the third but 011 has been fine for a very long time, they all work perfectly well.
Steel Guitar Forum Store sells a Stage One set, you can ask them to replace the wound sixth in that set with a .020 plain for the Encore. It's a good place to buy stuff.
Live Steel Strings are very good and they put together the sizes you need also.”
.013
.015
.011
.014
.017
.020
.026w
.030w
.034w
.038w
and he added: “ I will note that a .012 is perfectly fine, maybe even preferred, for the third string. ”

A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first.

I also use GHS with my encore. Less breakage and better tuning than anything else I’ve tried.
