Steel Player on Kate Wolf's "Like A River"

Post by Daniel Hastings »

Hi all,

Since I got a pedal steel last month I've been listening to anything and everything with a pedal steel on it for inspiration. I came across a track called "Like a River" by Kate Wolf, and I keep coming back to it because the pedal steel playing is exceptional. The album lists Peter Seigel and Daniel Jones as pedal steel players, but they don't say which is on this track. Does anyone know?

Here's the song: https://youtu.be/d2sKm7Y9G9A?si=1t-QHSxmfAvDuKj0

If anyone has recommendations of songs that have this kind of playing, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks!

As an aside, the liner notes also list Tony Rice on guitar, and that opening lick sounds a lot like him! Strange though that they would not have a guitar solo with someone like that on the session.

Thanks for sending that, Mike. I did not see that discogs page. I love how they have all the personnel listed out for each song. Wish there was more of that.

You nailed it with Gary Carter. I definitely hear the similarity in the track you shared. I will have to listen to more of his stuff!
