Is the pedal in/out feature on these amps essentially an effects loop? Thank you

When I had mine, I patched in a distortion and delay pedal, but not my volume pedal, into this loop and they worked fine. There are 2 effects loops on the back though. Preamp out / power amp in and a regular, probably pre EQ loop.

When I was using my 500 (also my 112) I always used my VP in the pedal in/out patch. Didn't lose highs the way going straight into the front of an amp does, and I miss that feature on my other amps! ;-)
