Armrest
Currently my pedal steel is a single neck without an armrest. Is it worth it to get an armrest? Does it make a difference while playing? I have only used without one so I am unsure of the pros and cons.

Re: Armrest
This is an arm rest I added to a GFI S12 Keyless. It is constructed of a piece of poplar wood, padded and covered with Naga-Hyde. At the key head I carved a bar holder groove in the wood. Has clip on changer end that holds my tuner. Just black Magic Marker colored the wood.
I made a pad for a MSA with a 12 string key head, Had enough room for a plastic Do-Bro bar and steel bar to lay together.
The arm rest is attached to the guitar with industrial grade Vel-Cro. So pad can be removed for casing guitar. No Holes Drilled In Guitar.

Re: Armrest
IMHO, an armrest - especially a full size one - supports your right forearm and helps your right hand technique. Supports your left arm, as well.

In my picture above, Is you look close. The pad in the changer/pickup area is taller. I made it taller to support my right wrist for better right hand orientation.

You'll only know if you try one. Head down to Billy Coopers and give it a go. I prefer a SD-10 but they are extra weight.

Re: Armrest
Don Blood makes armrests that fasten to the legs. I have 2 and they work great. He's a forum member and has a website.

Re: Armrest
I'm new to this forum so if this has already been addressed elsewhere, sorry. This subject is what came up when I did a search. My question is about the height of the armrest. I built one based on pictures I've seen on line (and the height of the strings of the C6 neck on a double neck guitar). I made it the height of the strings but feel like maybe it's a bit too high. I suppose it's a mater of personal preference but was wondering what is the recommended height.

Re: Armrest
Most all of the ones I've seen on SD guitars are about same height as the neck. I certainly think that having it the same height as the strings could be detrimental. As for its necessity as far as technique is concerned, I don't really buy that; it's purely a comfort or looks accessory. (Note that D10 guitars never have one, even for players who play mostly the inside neck. )

Re: Armrest
My Jackson Blackjack Custom has an armrest and it works well for me. It doesn't interfere with the picks and bar, and with a polymer bar, it's easier to play all ten strings.
