Replacement speaker for an old ltd.
Does anybody know the exact model for the celestion speaker that ‘s in the new Peavey steel amps? Especially the 15? I’m looking for a replacement for the JBL that’s in my ltd and was wondering if one of those speakers would be appropriate.

I'm wondering as well.....I've looked on the Celestion site but didn't find anything new.

2 years ago I put a new Telonics 15" neo dyne speaker in a very old Webb amp. It sounded just great, and was much, much lighter... hope this helps.

My plan is to put an Eminence EPS 15” into it that’s currently in my Evans 200.

Re: Replacement speaker for an old ltd.
I found a specs page for the Nashville 112 that included "80 watts, 12 inch Celestion® Sterling F250 speaker (specially voiced for steel)"
Peavey's marketing site for both the 112 and 115 amps only says says "All new Celestion speakers, voiced for modern pedal steel and clean guitar applications" but no model name is given. Celestion lists no steel guitar speakers or any mention of a "Sterling" line of products, and of course no sensitivity or response charts. I imagine Peavey tried to get it as close as possible to the BW specs but that's just my guess.
Not to rain on your parade, but replacing your alnico JBL (BW, Altec, EV) can save weight but it will cost you an octave or more of high end response and as much as half the volume per watt. For some players this may be all positive as the reduced highs help mask pick clatter and the reduced sensitivity allows running the amp a little hotter and hopefully warmer sounding.
If you want to keep the highs Telonics and Weber both made very sweet "JBL-voiced" neo speakers with somewhat extended highs but lower sensitivity than the JBL. Both come up for sale occasionally here on the forum.
If the EPS sound is your goal the new Travis Toy 15" from Eminence appears to be a refined EPS design, with a very mid-forward sound and highs rolling off sharply above 3.5kHz.
YMMV

John Lacy, that's what I have in mine -Eminence EPS-15. Completely happy with the sound, and the weight is more than manageable.

Dave, thanks for that detailed and thoughtful response. I love the jbl but want experiment. I thought of the TT option but that will set me back approx. $450. Canadian. I have the EPS already in my Evans so I can try it out and if it sucks I can return it easily. Wayne Brown of Outwest will help me with my experiment and I’m looking forward to “back to the future” again!

Re: Replacement speaker for an old ltd.
Well I had Wayne Brown swap out my jbl speaker for the eps15 that was in my Evans amp and I’m quite happy with the results-so far. Still need to test it out on the stage but it sounds rounder than the jbl. In turn, I really like the sound of the jbl in the evans but I’ll have to use my dolly on it from now on
