Who's Playing Steel for Michael Martin Murphy these days?

Post by Jim Cohen »

I see MMM is coming to town soon. Anyone know who's touring with him on steel? I'll bet Brett Day knows!

In his Rio Grande Band, the steel guitarist is Carmen Accioli. He plays a yellow Sho-Bud Super Pro. He's seen in the music video Michael did of his song "Long Line Of Love ". Carmen is from New Mexico

If Carmen is playing with him, it would be worth it just to hear him. He plays with such tone and smoothness it's just beautiful to hear.

Check out some of his videos here on the forum and YT. Of course, he won't likely be playing instrumentals.....but still.

He just posted Faraway Places a couple days ago in Steel on the Web.

Carmen is still recovering from a serious fall off a ladder recently and am not sure if he is back to playing yet. I don’t think he was playing with him before the fall, either.

Just heard from Carmen today and he says his recovery continues. He is playing steel some at home but he's not up to playing out at present. He's a great musician and a fine person besides, and hopefully his improvement will continue.

As far as I know he was no longer playing with MMM. He's got a good selection on YT, here's a cut from Michael Hearne with him on steel:

Many play better than I do. Nobody has more fun.

Carmen's a great player. I used to see/hear him at the Sagebrush Inn, In Taos, NM..He played a blonde Sho~Bud.
He'd play for Bill & Bonnie (RIP) Hearne and Michael Hearne.
Here's Bill, Bonniel playing their classic,"New Mexico Rain with Carmen and Michael:

The Motherlode Saloon in Red River was/is a great place to see the Hearne's.
