New Steel Guitar EP

Post by Mikiya Matsuda »

Hello Steel Guitar Forum!

Last summer, I recorded a short session of standards with two of my favorite players here on the West Coast. The immensely talented Cody Farwell mixed and mastered the record and it’s now up on Bandcamp. For those keeping score, I used my D8 Joaquin model Clinesmith with horseshoes through a Skip Simmons rebuilt Stromberg-Carlson PA head. A6/F#9 tuning on all the tracks.

If you’d like to check it out, here are links to the EP plus a video of one of the tunes (more to come)…

Samuel Wolfe Rocha -bass
Josh Collazo - drums
Everett Katigbak- videography
Cody Farwell - mixing & mastering

Hope you enjoy it!

Aloha Mikiya,

Thanks for sharing! I’ll take a listen!

I did see your YouTube video of “I’ve got the world on a string”. Very nice work musically, but also with the videography!
Aloha,

Mike K

Love it! The album was a topic of discussion at a steel guitar meet up in Toronto recently!

Mikiya, these cuts are really terrific. The sound on the video is huge. I like how the envelope of your vibrato changes after you intonate - very horn-like. Those strummed arpeggios also sound nice (Barney Kessel would be proud). Big studio space.
