Ah Chalker! Doesn't get better, does it? I love this tune and it's many treatments by many players, especially this one.

Thanks Chris!

That started out as "Tenderly", I'll listen later. Is it a medley or just improv?

I believe this is from the 1976 St. Louis Convention. It was on an internet site at one time with a lot of other recordings from then, but I don't know if the site still exists. I can't seem to locate it now.

I can't listen to it because the choppy rhythm makes me nervous. But I did love listening to Curly play E9 on the Wilburn Brothers show.

Curley was awesome. Funny I’ve had probably 30 to 35 D-10 guitars and none of them had the chords he uses to interpret a song in such a unique manner. He was a true song stylist blessed with off the charts musical acumen. One of me very all time favorites.

Scott, Monte Barry was a "hang around" with my bluegrass band, Stoney Creek in the 70's. If you back track his link you'll find a recording of our band from spring of 1974 !

This thread got me to thinking about Curly and got out his Big Hits on Big Steel.

Great to have another listen. It's all great, but his treatment on Together Again kills me every time.

I think Curly has to be in the top echelons of steel guitar stylists. There was Emmons and Day, Alvino Rey, Speedy and many pioneers, but Curly certainly danced to a different drummer.
