The next track drops. Is this the end of albums?

Post by Guy Cundell »

A smidgeon of lap steel and a fair quantity of my dobro on this first single from an emerging Australian artist, released yesterday. It is a bit of a throwback production-wise. No single producer but more of a committee consisting of the arranger (me), the engineer, and the mixer/masterer.

This is the next track in an album of material I have worked on for this artist. It’s a country song about playing your guitar and not drinking. I’m pretty pleased as it has my first recorded PSG efforts.

But it seems like we are back to the sixties, with single releases prioritized. The artist has opted for gradual releases of tracks rather than dropping the album all at once. It seems to make sense, particularly for emerging artists, considering sales of physical product have fallen off a cliff. Anyway, it appears to be working well for her first effort, with reasonable streaming numbers achieved on the major services and some radio airplay around this country.
