My Arrangement of The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever

Post by Dennis Montgomery »

So, another Friday and time for another Pedal Steel Only arrangement! This week I present my arrangement of The Beatles, "Strawberry Fields Forever". It joins "The Fool on the Hill", "Julia", "Across the Universe", "She's Leaving Home" and "Long, Long, Long" as the 6th Beatles arrangement on the playlist.

The playlist also includes pedal steel only arrangements of "Time Waits For No One", "Lady Jane" & "Wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones, "Starman" by David Bowie, "Good Advices" by REM, and several Grateful Dead arrangements: "Ship of Fools", "Candyman", "Rosemary", "Mountains of the Moon", "Row Jimmy", "High Time" & "China Doll".

"Strawberry Fields Forever" can be heard at:

All songs are arranged and performed on a 2019 Mullen G2 SD12 in extended D9.

Thanks for listening!

Good stuff Dennis. Quite an effort to use steel for as many parts as you did.

Thanks Larry!

I always thought it would be fun to write pedal steel arrangements for these songs that wouldn't need any other instruments, and the ability for pedal steel to handle complete songs has always been a big part of it's magic for me.

The chord/melody main part is always the biggest challenge as I try to find places on the neck I can play 2 or 3 note chords underneath while walking the vocal melody around on top of it at the same time. I'd be completely lost without the vocal melody notes I can get from the RKR lever with the 2nd string half stop

Luckily with an SD12 I can get the bass parts too ;-)
