Chris Scruggs Interview

Post by Rick Bernauer »

Great interview and Chris Scruggs playing guitar and steel. He plays non-pedal steel starting at 1:24:30 with some really great examples of different techniques around 1:29:00.

I was watching this last night. GREAT interview. I like where he says you can tell when a pedal steel guitarist started on lap steel and he recommends anyone learning pedals to play lap steel for a year first.

I was opening for BR5-49 when Chris was playing with them back in the day. Was blown away at this 'kids' talent. I think he had just turned 21 at the time. I'm glad to see he's still doing his thing.

his advice on volume pedal should be required for all players even the very advanced.

I saw him playing upright bass with Marty and he was beyond incredible, never mind everything else he plays. Fabulous Superlative indeed!

I watched this over the past couple days and it was one of the most interesting and enjoyable interviews with a pro musician I have ever seen. He had some great insights on steel guitar and I loved his demos on the Fender D-8 toward the end. Loved all the insights on standard guitar as well.

Chris is a walking encyclopedia of country music history. And Zac Childs did his usual great job as the interviewer/host.
