A Whiter Shade of Pale

Post by Chuck S. Lettes »

Hi Guys,
I wanted to revisit a tune that is one of the soundtracks to my earlier years. The lyrics to A Whiter Shade of Pale are a bit "opaque" to me, but the sweet melody makes a cool instrumental. Hope the song brings back some good memories, like it does for me.

Chuck,
My interpretation of the lyrics is that they pertain to the sinking of the Titanic.

Lovely melody, you played it just right! Always make me tear up just a little bit, for reasons I'd rather not disclose. Much has been written about those lyrics, and their meaning. This article shares comments from Keith Reid, who wrote 'em.

I can't find it on Youtube, but Jim Cohen has a fantastic version of this on his album "Home, James". Check it out.

Thanks, guys. Glad that you like my arrangement. I noticed from the article that D attached, that the band's keyboard player, Matthew Fisher, finally got to share the song writing credit. He created the memorable organ interludes.
