Tom told me the red pedal board was put on there to keep the glare down for the camera.

Great video -- corny as hell but what a great band

I was particularly intrigued by the use of the one mic to capture both vocals and Buck's guitar -- they were singing pretty dang far away from the mic so that thing had to be cranked up.

Tom Brumley looks so relaxed! And wow that fiddle playing!

Bucks Fender acoustic.. love it-that driving rhythm guitar [wacka wacka] would not be allowed today, nor would Tom's very stylistic weaving between the vocal lines, using chords, country licks, seventh chords, bluesy licks all swelling in and out with power and distinction with his volume pedal use... Nor would Don's snappy tele licks with a few squeeks and squigits here and there to liven things up/... Nope, we have "progressed" too far musically, and need to keep the audio production "specialists" in charge of what the music should sound like... Nothing uneven, no raw unfiltered sounds that the players and their instruments produce on an individual basis.. It MUST be refined,, and filtered before consumption... blech..

THIS video is what country was meant to sound like,,, I have watched all those old Buck Owens Ranch shows.. Yes by todays standard a tiny bit "corny", but you know, I LOVE corn... bob

I won't ever forget that it was precisely this sound - ever-so tight harmonies, snappy Tele licks and innovative steel obligato that made me hair stand on end - that drew me away from the pop music of the day.

Even a liking for country music would earn you a sideways look back in Britain in 1966, but this band (and Merle's) so affected me that I put my big Gibson Super 400 in the closet and bought myself a Telecaster.

There's a deftness about this performance - they're all enjoying what they're doing and executing it with confidence born of their belief in what they're playing. It's refreshing to see after today's videos - angst-ridden mini-dramas with cookie-cutter accompaniment behind the auto-tuned vocal.
