Brooksville, FL Fri. & Sat Feb 25-26

The "Florida Classic" music festival will be going on at Brooksville this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb 24, 25, and 26. (Brooksville is about 160 miles north of Ft. Myers.)

I will be playing steel on a couple of sets on Friday and Saturday afternoon (with Teea Goans and Redd Volkeart). Plus Moe Bandy will be there on Saturday night, and he has steel in his band. Last time I saw Moe, he had John Clark on steel guitar.

In addition, The Malpass Brothers will be there on Friday and Saturday, and they usually have a fine steel player with them.

So, if you want to hear some steel guitar this weekend, you might want come to Brooksville. :D The venue is about a mile off Interstate 75.

My luck isn't working well these days John. I live in Brooksville and I'm just (hopefully) getting over Covid. When something good comes this close I'm usually booked, out of town or have some other issue. Have a great show.

Thanks, Ben. Glad you are (hopefully!) getting over Covid. I had it back in July of 2021...

See you next time,

John played some tasty steel with Redd Volkaert, the Tele-master. What a fantastic set of classic country on Saturday. There was a young man whose name I forget who played stellar steel on his Emmons P/P with the Malpass Brothers. I had never heard of these fine young fellas and I look forward to hearing more of them. The evening ended with a set by the legendary Moe Bandy. Thanks again for the heads up on this festival, John!

Ron, thanks for the nice words and the photos. It was nice to meet you and talk steel guitar!

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to play a total of 3 sets/shows at the "Florida Classic" festival at Brooksville. Redd Volkeart played lead guitar on all 3 sets...and he was amazing/astounding/phenomenal. Playing for Teea Goans is always a pleasure, and she "knocked it out of the park" at Brooksville.

And, it was great to play steel with the Malpass Brothers and Redd on their "Life With Merle" show. What an honor to play music with these folks who had toured with Merle Haggard for a number of years. They all 3 shared stories of 'life with Merle', along with doing 9 or 10 classic Hag hits.
