Great pickin'! Just thinking about that board in front of the pedal rods. That might not be a bad idea for those playing in honky tonks. I was playing bass with this band in Dallas one night and the steel player came in so excited about getting his brand new Dekley D-10.
He carefully put it together but put it up near the front of the stage about one foot from the edge and the stage was only about one foot high. We were playing and I was watching the dancers and when the song stopped this fat woman come running across the dance floor to make a request and she chose the steel player. Just as she was approaching the bandstand she lost her balance but managed to get herself turned forward just in time for her butt to flop down right in the middle of his pedal rods. 5 bent severely and made his steel unplayable. Some of the pedals were cocked up in the air. He jumped up off his steel cussing so loud everyone in that noisy bar could hear him. First day with brand new D-10 and major accident.
