Smiley Weaver
Wayne Morton called me and told me we had lost Smiley Weaver. One of the great pickers and singers. From the Mills Brothers to Bob Wills. Smiley was well known for his Western Swing guitar and steel. He passed July 11. He'll be missed by many friends and guys he mentored. I'm one of those too! The list of guys Smiley helped along the way is way too long to mention here!! Maybe it's true. "The good Lord likes a little pickin' too!"

What a legend! I started taking guitar lessons from Weav in January of 1966. He loved kids and the kids serious about he would bend over backward for like he did me and others. His custom speaker cabs were second to none, decades ahead there time. A pioneer in his right. He will greatly missed by many.
Keep pickin', Larry

I had the good fortune of playing lead guitar in a group and Smiley played the steel...played at a local casino for a New Years eve dance. He was a great player. He played for many years with Les Gilliam's band around Oklahoma and Arkansas and all over really.
This is the obituary in our local paper about Smiley:
David E. “Smiley” Weaver, 88, of Braman, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at home on July 11th, 2019. He was born on June 1, 1931, in Centrahoma, Oklahoma, to Dave and Sallie Weaver, and grew up in Ada, Oklahoma. He married Meda “Carol” Jeffries on September 15, 1949. Together, they raised four children, three daughters, Ann, Pam, and Vicki, and one son David.
He devoted his entire life to family and music. He was an accomplished steel guitarist and a great vocalist. Smiley and Carol owned Smiley’s Guitar House in Ada for over 30 years and helped many people with their own music careers. Smiley received awards such as Outstanding Western Swing Steel Guitar player in the Texas Western Swing Society, Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame, and in 2015, was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.
Survivors include three daughters, one son, seven grandchildren, a son in law, daughter in law, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and his loving wife Carol of 65 years.
He wished to be cremated and a private memorial service held at his home in Braman for family members.
