Early in his career, he played a number of venues including the Louisiana Hayride. In 1967 he opened the Carpenters Hall in Abilene, Texas where he formed the Dixie Playboys. In 1974, L.C. opened the Ponderosa Ballroom, now known as Guitars 'n Cadillacs, where he and the Dixie Playboys were the house band, as well as hosting guests such as Ray Price, Asleep at the Wheel among many others.
Over the years, L.C. played with many artists such as Johnny Horton, George Jones, Governor Jimmie Davis and Slim Whitman.
Larry Toliver played pedal steel guitar for awhile at The Ponderosa, and there were several others who also played pedal steel at The Ponderosa whom I can't recall right now.
