RIP J. Geils
Surprised nobody else picked up on this - he died this past Tuesday April 11, 2017 - Boston Globe Story
He and his band, who were essentially the house band at the Boston Tea Party for a period, were hugely influential on me and tons of other Boston-area blues musicians in the late 60s, early 70s. I hung out at their gigs multiple times a week back then, and I might just as easily have blown off school at that point.
Most people think about "Centerfold" and their MTV exposure in the 80s. But they really were a hard core blues band more in the mold of the Butterfield Blues Band. In the early days, they were electrifying.

J. Geils "Full House" Live Album was huge when I was growing up. J. Geils, Boston, Aerosmith, and the James Montgomery Blues Band put New England on the rock/blues map back in the early 1970's.

I saw them in the early days... 1970 at the Capitol Theatre in Springfield, Mass. They were almost a local band (from Worcester, Mass). A great show, as I remember, but I don't remember much from those days! Other acts that played the Capital were Alice Cooper (a bizarre show!), Small Faces w/Rod Stewart, Eric Burdon and War. The building was torn down in 1972.
