Paul Richey, St.Louis MO

Post by Duane Dunard »

The music world lost an icon yesterday, with the passing of Paul Richey. He was a masterful steel guitarist, a dedicated and precise musician. In his later years he brought much enjoyment to local musicians by hosting his weekly Wednesday jams - any singer or musician was welcome, no matter the talent level. I hope he is back to jamming with some of our Wed. jam friends - Bob Delaloye, Wimp Daley, Dooley, Chuck Raue, and Nick Nixon. Rest in peace, Paul.

I did not know him--but I'm wondering:

Is he the same Paul Richey that played on the west coast in the early 1950s with Walt McCoy's band?

Mitch, I don't know. However, Paul had pictures of himself working on the road with Jack Greene during Jack's #1 hit years. Paul was probably the top steel player in the St.Louis region during the late 60's-early 70's and a personal friend of Buddy Emmons.

Paul was a great player and quite a colorful guy. He would get in your face in a heartbeat, if you made him mad. In the early 60's he told me to get rid of my Fender 1000 and get an Emmons----advice well taken. He was top gun in this town, and was up until his passing. Hope he's having a ball up there with the Big E.
I'll miss you Rick. Pat Heller
