"Sign In From A Less Secure App"

Post by Ben Elder »

Google/Gmail has recently notified me of three separate attempts (each different countries, none of them the US) to log into my account "from a less secure app."

What does "less secure app" mean? Does someone have my password and Google just doesn't like the IP address so they're blocking the would-be intruder, or...?

I only sign in from a Gmail page (not from something like Mail on my Macs.)

I changed my password (pushpullfatbackcuttailSKHLeGrandeD10yeahright) so the hackers will be rebuffed from the get-go?

Is that actually a password you're using somewhere now? I ask because you're making it public here.

FWIW, using real words and terms for passwords isn't the most secure way to do it. Something random that uses upper/lower case letters, numbers and symbols is better - something like wy6%*3OfnC as a random example.

It's my ultra-facetious SGF- jargon fake Password. Not in use ever.

And my handle is neither BE or Obese E. Question's serious though.

Yeah, OK. Didn't really think so, but some strange stuff shows up here from time to time.
