Heckuva singer.
Remember "My Old Faded Rose" or "Standing Room Only" or "My Baby Walks All Over Me" from the early 60s? Very much in a Johnny Cash style, but he was no mere imitator.
He did a great recording of what must be a true story with "Willie's Drunk and Nellie's Dying" circa 1970.
His career dates back to the late 50s.
He had an extensive web site where I learned a few years ago that he had gone into crop-dusting. Pretty tough career to do at age 75---I'm surprised he was still at it.
He should have been much better known, but I think he saw the light and went on to a more stable career 30 or 40 years ago.
Here's a couple of early pix and one fairly recently with Leroy Van Dyke.
