Ray was a player from north-central Indiana. He began as a non-pedal player and upon seeing his very first pedal guitar, in the late fifties, devoted himself to developing his own parts and tuning. Interesting dude from my area! He was part of the Pierce Steel thing in the 1970's. Here's his obituary:
Raymond B. Krick, 78, Rochester, passed away at 6:25 p.m. Monday April 4, 2016, at Life Care Center of Rochester.
He was born on June 1, 1937, in Muncie, the son of Orville F. and Anna Irene (Eckerle) Krick.
Raymond was a professional musician who played the steel guitar and also spent 40 years working in the jewelry repair business. He attended Madison Street United Methodist Church, Muncie, and Grace United Methodist Church, Rochester; was a member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge; and was a member of the Petal Steel Guitar Association. He enjoyed making steel guitars, having custom-made more than 30 in his lifetime. Raymond also enjoyed his recording studio at his home and performing with different bands over the years at road shows, clubs and lodges.
Survivors include his daughter, Shelley Krick, St. Petersburg, Fla.; foster daughter Kim Krick, Florida; three grandchildren; and his feline companion, Smokey. He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Krick, and his parents.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday April 8, 2016, at Tomlinson Cemetery, Muncie. Friends may visit from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Rochester. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanbrosfh.com.
