RIP Steve Young

Post by Josh Sommovilla »

Steve Young, whose RCA albums prominently featured Buddy Emmons, died a couple of days ago. In my opinion, he was severely under-appreciated. RIP.

What depressing news. Truly one of the great independent songwriters and singers of our time. RIP.

Sorrowful news indeed.
His vocals and songs are some of my favorites.
A band mate lent me the album "Renegade Picker" about 30 years ago. I have been a fan every since then. His music was not available on CD for a long time. I finally found an import set.
Rest in peace Brother.

Steve Young

Post by Weldon Myrick »

Sorry to learn of Steve's passing. Weldon picked on a lot of Steve Young's songs including "Seven Bridges Road". It's included in the exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame in the Dylan. Cash and The Nashville Cats Exhibit. Steve was always complimentary regarding Weldon's pickin'.

Thanks, Judi Myrick

I discovered he died from a head injury caused by a fall - how tragic.

Steve Young has long been one of my favorite artists and I've been blessed to have seen him perform solo in some very intimate venues, such as Harry Hope's in Cary, Illinois and the Cactus Cafe on the University of Texas campus, in Austin. Not only did he possess a rich and powerful voice, he was, as most of us know, a great song writer and an amazing flat-picker. Here he is performing his composition, "Traveling Kind"

RIP, Steve.
