That same year he was nominated for Kansas Entertainer of the year by Senator Robert Dole and won entertainer of the year in Colorado. Four of his songs made the top 100 on the Country Billboard. After that he opened for Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Charley Pride and Faron Young. Roger opened the county fair in Caldwell, KS in 2004. Thanks for the nicest comment, Gary.
Rod was a close and dear friend to me and supported my music aspirations in full. He was a mentor to many and inspiring. His debut album included Lloyd Green, Buddy Emmons and Weldon Myrick, playing steel guitar.
He would have loved the spirit in our steel guitar community, as traditional country and gospel were his favorites, for listening and performing.
I wasn't sure if anyone here would have remembered him or possibly played music with him, but thought I'd post his obituary, just in case?
