Bonnie Lou

That is not the same Bonnie Lou. Bonnie Lou Moore of Bonnie Lou and Buster is still alive not in good health but still living in Morristown.Tn I read some years a go where some folks thought it was the same Bonnie Lou as the one that recorded seven lonely days. Bonnie Lou Moore never recorded for any major label and is stiil a live.

Mitch, thanks a bunch for posting that photo of the Bonnie Lou and Buster show gang. I live near Johnson City where the shoe originated. I used to watch the show every week. I was playing lead guitar at the time, but what I really wanted to do was play steel, a dream that came true in 1969. I saw their live show at my grade school alma mater, South Central School.

I never heard "Pepe" Peeler (Peppy) called Guy before, even in his later life. He played a lap steel several years ago at the steel jam in Bristol and must have been close to 90 years old. He still took our heads off with great playing.

Just for fun, here is my take on who everybody is in the photo. Left to right, Pepe Peeler (steel) Alf Pierce from Alf Pierce music store in Elizabethton, the show's sponsor. 7 ft. tall Homer Harris (where is his trick horse, Stardust) Lloyd "ding dong" Bell (Bonny Lou's brother (played bass) but when he wasn't there, Bonny Lou played bass. Buster Moore (alter ego Humphammer" and husband of Bonnie Lou. Kneeling, Benny Sims, great fiddle player, and of course Bonnie Lou.

To quote Bob Hope "Thanks for the memories." Great reminder of times gone by.

Also, thanks Will for the update on Bonnie Lou. Last I heard, Lloyd was employed at Dollywood in guest relations, but that was quite a few years ago.

George

PS: They also used Ray Myers, a steel player with no arms. Played with his feet. He could bend a metal drink bottle top flat with his toes. I had one as a souvenir at one time.

I worked with Bonnie Lou and Charlie Gore at the Brown County Fair and did some session work with Charlie.
