Don Chapel, passed away Sunday Afternoon 11-6-15. He was a prolific Nashville song writer who was at one time married to the late Tanmmy Wynette. One of Don's big hits was "When the Grass Grows Over Me" recorded by George Jones. Don was a dear friend of mine and I got to share the stage with him several times over the years. Below is a posting from earlier today by Don's daughter Donna Chapel Cuno . . .
At approximately 4:10 this afternoon, Lloyd Franklin Amburgey (professionally known as Don Chapel) left this earth after a long battle with heart failure and pneumonia. He was surrounded by those who loved him. His impact left on this world will not be forgotten. Thanks to all of those who have been concerned with his health these past few months.
Sad news....Rest in peace Don.
We played backup for Don and Donna back in the late 60's at a dance hall in Lake Mills Ia. called "Don & Ruby's". Great people and good times. Just noticed this post, will have to send condolences to Donna.
