Making it Easier to Upgrade to Windows 10

Post by Mitch Drumm »

Info in above link directly from Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s head of Windows and devices.

Some quotes:

"Our original approach for the Windows 10 roll out included a two-step process: First, reserve, then later, we notify you to start the upgrade process...........the two-step process is no longer relevant........we will automatically kick off the upgrade process once you have made a reservation........Early next year, we expect to be re-categorizing Windows 10 as a “Recommended Update”. Depending upon your Windows Update settings, this may cause the upgrade process to automatically initiate on your device."

Apparently, Windows 7 and Windows 8 users will only see the upgrade prompt once, so I expect more consternation and confusion as Microsoft becomes even more aggressive at pushing Windows 10. Check your Windows Update settings and cross your fingers.

Microsoft is determined to get (force) Win 10 on those that do not want it.

I have a dual boot system that originally was Win 7 and Win 8.1. I upgraded the 8.1 to Win 10 and Win 10 has become my "operational" OS. However, I've kept Win 7 due to supporting clients with it and for a couple of applications that are not Win 8.1/10 compatible. I don't want my Win 7 upgraded and keep hiding the updates when they appear.

....and be sure to make OS-drive images frequently in case Win10 happens under the radar. This has been a beta-test on steroids, worldwide.

I wonder how they plan to force people to Win 10 on computers that are incompatible. My laptop is upgraded, but my desktop is still Win 7, as it was not compatible.
Carter D10 8p/7k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup, Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112, Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open G slide and regular G tuning guitar) .

Playing for 55 years and still counting.

Dumb-down the qualifications, maybe? Hey, if it's good enough for public schools and the US Military, it ought to be good enough for Microsoft.

They may not hit the ones they deem incompatible. One of the things the "Get Windows Ten" (GWX)does is flag incompatible hardware or software. I'm just guessing but it detects incompatible it won't try to upgrade that.

On the other side, we are seeing people, on the Win 10 forum, with old hardware that is incompatible at best that upgraded to Win 10 and are now having problems. Those systems should not have been upgraded.
