Imac Question

Post by George Kimery »

I can't find a way to just do a simple letter or instruction sheet. Is this basic function just not available? If so, how do I access it? I guess I would be looking for stationary, text, or something similar. So far, all I have been able to do is e-mails and surf the web. I have never owned anything except Mac's in all the years I have had a computer.

My old Mac's had McDraw, McPaint, and lots of other useful stuff. That was the reason I got Mac's in the first place. Have they dropped all those features? If so, they have just become the same as a PC computer in my opinion.

Thanks

George,

Recent iMacs should have a software called "Pages" for all your writing document type needs. It is an Apple software that should come with your Mac. It will open documents created in Microsoft Word also. I am not sure what other software documents Pages will open.

Look for it on your computer, there should be an Icon in your program Icon area, or you should be able to find it in your list of software programs.

Hope this helps, ...if it does, please post back here so we'll know.

My computer ia very old, so "pages" is not available.

However, I am good to go. I spotlighter "text" and also "fonts" The computer did the searching and found them both.

I don't know the terminoloy to use, but if anybody knows some other search words I can use to find other useful stuff, I would appreciate it very much.

Text Edit

Post by George Piburn »

TextEdit , is a utility, on Mac OS - it is the advanced variation of what used to be called Simple Text.

On a PC it would be called NotePad.

Text Edit typically is in your

Applications > Utilities.

Another way - is to purchase MS Office for Mac.

Hope this helps you.

I have used "text edit" in the past on my iMac. Since I "upgraded" to El Capitan, it is no longer located in the launchpad. I located another text edit document, opened it and created templates for future documents.
I wouldn't go to El Capitan until they work out some of the bugs. i.e.: Pro Tools is not supported in El Capitan and several other sound programs don't work.
They did work in Apple's "Yosemite" system which leads me to believe it's an Apple fix.
