Converting Old VHS Tapes to Digital Format

Post by George Redmon »

Can someone please, show me to a thread, or tell me the EASIEST.....way to convert my old band VHS recorded video tapes to a digital format? Either a DVD, or an SD Card? Can this be done on my computer EASILY? A friend suggested I purchase a DVD recorder, I looked around, $400 for a decent one. Any way to do this cheaper? Any help is much appreciated.

A standalone DVD recorder is the easiest (and best) way to do it. You should be able to get a DVD recorder or even a combo VHS/DVD machine for a lot less.

In order to do it on a computer, you need an interface device to connect a VHS to the PC. You then must "record" the tapes to the PC's hard drive. After that you need another program that will record to a PC's DVD burner drive and "finalize" the DVD so it can be played in a standard DVD player.

George, If you want to make digital copies this is the best thing I've found. Then you can do what you want with them, DVD, youtube, save to another hard drive, anything you want.

I use Honestech 5.0, this is a later version. You can record direct to a DVD from a VHS player, or you can save, and modify.

Wow guys, I didn't even know these units existed. I will certainly look into each. They are both about the same price I see. Thank You all so much for steering me to these, and for all the other suggestions as well. I may just get this project done now. Thanks again fella's.
