Roy Ferguson Tulsa Icon Passed On

Post by Gene Crain »

Sad news that my good friend Roy Ferguson Died last night in a Tulsa hospital. Roy and his wife Candy ran Roy and Candys Music Store here in Tulsa for many years. Roy was a great musician and band leader. He worked with Johnnie Lee Wills for 20 years and many other famous western swing players. He was a friend to Country Music and will be sorely missed. RIP Roy

I remember Roy and Candy's.
I can think of no better life than Roy's, doing country swing.

Roy was our "go to" music source in the Tulsa area for many years and a friend to all. Our sincere condolences to the family.

Sad news. I got to know Roy when he worked at the Guitar House, before he started Roy & Candy's. He was a nice guy, very helpful to a beginning guitar player.

MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, a restored MSA Classic SS, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro.

I lived in Oklahoma back in 1974 and attended the Hank Thompson School of Country Music at Claremore Jr. College. Gene Craine gave me private steel guitar lessons at the school.

When I ventured into Tulsa it was easy to find Roy and Candy's Music on Memorial Drive. I had heard their ads on KVOO radio. They were very helpful with my needs and a "country friendly" music store.
I bought lots of strings, picks, cables etc. from them. Sorry to hear of Roy's passing.

Hey Larry, I was born and raised in Claremore, but I left in 1980. I'm a naturalized Texan now.

Roy sold me my first steel guitar and amp, but we remained friends anyway. He later sold me a new fiddle and amp for my dad. Then he sold me an autoharp for my mother. Quite a salesman. And quite an entertainer. I can still see him doing "Long Tall Texan" with Jack Ryder playing steel.
