Little Jim The KIng of Ballads, IMO
To be honest,I wasn't fond of his comical songs even though they were the most commercially successful. When it comes to ballads is another story. His ballads in the mid too late 60's are some of the very best ever recorded, IMO. He had a great feel for them and he had the best session musicians too. Thankfully, they can be heard on the internet. It's fitting that his most requested songs at his personal appearances were his ballads. He never disappointed his fans. He was a good man that was deeply loved and admired. Well done sir. RIP !!

Jimmy had so many great ballads. My favorite is When Your House Is Not A Home. I liked some of the comedy stuff but like you I've always preferred his ballad songs. He did a nice cover of the Connie smith song Charley Brown, only his version was Lucy Brown. Eddie Stubbs is doing a tribute show this Thursday night and Im sure he will play many of the ballads Jimmy Dickens recorded. The show can be heard at wsm online.com or on the radio at 650 AM WSM.
